The Mexican artist Cannon Bernáldez presents new series in the twelfth edition of Salón ACME within the Projects section.
In the first series the artist uses black paint to intervene in landscapes of Veracruz printed in silver/gelatin. These marks symbolize the silencing of the truth and the fragility of freedom of expression in Mexico.
The second series is made up of one hundred silver/gelatin prints, intervened with watercolors made of earth, a nod to illegal logging in Mexico.
Specializing in classic photographic techniques, such as ambrotype and silver/gelatin, Bernáldez creates a fantastic universe that documents everything from strange circumstances to intimate emotions and personal demons. Her solid proposal addresses the feminine condition and human fragility as central themes.
His work is part of collections at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Arts Center at Lehigh University (Pennsylvania), Centro de la Imagen, Carrillo Gil Art Museum and Fundación Cultural Televisa.
