Hipervínculos: Alejandro Cartagena 2005-2026 brings together two decades of work by one of the most restless Mexican photographers of his generation: what he himself has called "the generation of doubt": those who, having inherited the twentieth century's documentary tradition, chose to question its certainties rather than perpetuate them. From series such as Suburbia Mexicana, Carpoolers, or Rivers of Power to his more recent projects involving historical archives and artificial intelligence, Cartagena examines the urban, labor, and border structures that organize life in contemporary Mexico, always working from the suspicion that photography has never been a simple record of the real, but rather a device that constructs and proposes narratives.

That suspicion translates into a method: accumulation and repetition as forms of knowledge and conceptual speculation. In series like Accumulations or in his work with institutional archives, Cartagena lets the reiteration of a gesture reveal, on its own, the mechanisms of power that photography has normalized. This exhibition thus traces his passage from analog to digital, his exploration of the photobook as its own narrative space, and his recent foray into AI-generated imagery, in order to put forward a central idea: that to photograph today is not to capture the world, but to interrogate the conventions through which we have learned to look at it.
