Peter Koch / El arte de hacer libros (The Art of Making Books)
Patricia Conde Gallery is honored to announce the ninth intervention in its Library, a space dedicated to exploring the many facets of books as an art form. On this occasion, we present the work of Peter Koch, internationally recognized as one of the great masters of typography and artist books.
Peter Rutledge Koch, born in Montana, USA, is a typographic printer, publisher, designer, author, and educator whose work has significantly impacted the world of artist books. His extensive career includes creating unique works under imprints such as Black Stone Press, Peter and the Wolf Editions, Editions Koch, and others.
In 2005, with his wife Susan Filter, he founded The Codex Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of the book. Since 2007, the foundation has organized the CODEX International Book Fair, one of the most important events in its field.
Koch's work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as:
The New York Public Library
The San Francisco Public Library
Harvard University
The Yellowstone Art Museum
The Grolier Club, among others
Among his most notable achievements are the Peter Koch Printer: A Forty-Year Retrospective exhibited at Stanford University in 2017 and the three-volume descriptive catalog Peter Koch Printer: A Descriptive Bibliography.
His archives and collections are preserved in renowned institutions such as the University of Delaware and Stanford University.
