Margot Kalach
Mexico, 1992
Margot Kalach is an artist from Mexico City. She studied photography at Bard College, NY, USA, in addition to taking workshops such as "Mundo Imagen" implemented by the artist Mauricio Alejo at the University Museum of Contemporary Art (2017) and the SOMA Educational Program, Mexico (2017-2019).
Kalach uses photography as a medium through which it is possible to experiment with light to express undefined processes of knowledge. Light is the raw material of the artist, as well as the protagonist of the work. For Margot, light has become a container for essential questions and paradoxes of our time; as an invisible field in itself that allows us to see everything else, as an intrinsically uncertain substance (in its wave-particle duality), which we nevertheless use as the main vehicle to cement certainty about our reality, and finally, as a single substance that transforms into infinite forms, or takes the form of everything it touches.
These reflections have been slowly revealed through play, the desire for discovery, and the creation of personal machinery and systems. The artist's relationship with matter, and the results of the experiments, reflect an interest in the concepts of complexity and chaos, and the relationship of these ideas with fields such as science, which fight for an order. At the center of this search is a fascination for the presence of complex structures that emerge from artistic creation, biological creation, and urban creation. In the forms of abstraction and geometry, Margot finds the potential to intersect these fields of knowledge: creative, scientific, and historical, which are constantly discovered intertwined in our vision of reality.
