José Antonio Martínez

VIEW AVAILABLE WORK
Mexico, 1950.
Born in Mexico City, José graduated cum laude as an industrial designer from the Iberoamerican University. Quiet, reflective and preoccupied with life’s great mysteries, José Antonio Martínez has developed a creative concept in which description of reality is a pretext that gives way to the evocative meaning of each image. Due to an intimate knowledge of technique, Jose’s photos reveal a particular sensitivity to death, the beauty of objects, and human behavior.

Throughout his career as a photographer, he has taken part in an array of both personal and collective exhibits in Mexico and abroad. Among his individual exhibits are: “Montag entumecido” (Patricia Conde Gallery, Mexico City), which was part of the program “FotoSeptiembre 2011; “Elegía” (El atrio Gallery, Universidad de Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico), which was part of the 37 Festival Internacional Cervantino, 2009; “Todo ángel es terrible” (Museo de Arte de Santiago de Querétaro, Querétaro, Mexico, 2009), and “Las güeras” (Sotocoro de la Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, Mexico City, 2009). Ernesto de la Peña, Arnoldo Kraus, Guillermo Samperio and Mary Ellen Mark, among others have written about Jose’s photographic works.
